Ik en mijn lief besloten dat we nodig eens moesten gaan bijhouden hoe we nu eigenlijk ons geld besteden en dat het in ieder geval voor de boodschappen het handigste was om dit op de ouderwetse manier te doen. Dus op naar de kantoorboekhandel om een huishoudboekje te kopen. Nu zijn de kaften van die dingen zeldzaam lelijk en dus ben ik maar eens achter mijn naaimachine gedoken om er een uniek jasje voor te maken...

Another fun project I like to do every now and than... brooches. These I made using some gingham fabric, fused plasticbags scraps, vintage buttons and brown paper bags. I've put them up for sale in my other Etsy-shop.

Weer een lekker knutsel project... broches. Kost niet veel tijd en is leuk om te doen Deze heb ik gemaakt met een ruitjesstof, restlapjes van de "smelttasjes", oude knopen en bruine papier. Ze zijn te koop via mijn andere etsywinkeltje.

I've found this tutorial on fusing plastic grocerybags on Etsylabs and ofcourse I had to try it out. I still am trying to come up with some nice idea's how to put those new "scraps of fabric" to use.

For my first trial I used thin white bags. This resulted in a rather irregular and not so flat shape. Most probably because I've been making birds lately, the shape and lines reminded me of a bird so I emphasized the lines using black stitches.

Voor mijn eerste probeersel heb ik gebruik gemaakt van dunne witte plastic tasjes. Het resultaat was een nogal onregelmatige en niet zo vlakke vorm. Deze vorm en de lijnen die ontstonden door het samensmelten deden mij denken aan een vogel. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk doordat ik de laatste tijd zo met vogelvormen bezig ben geweest. De lijnen heb ik vervolgens benadrukt door deze van zwarte stiksels te voorzien.

For my second trial, I placed purple tissue paper between the last two layers before fuming the plastic.During the coolingprocess I also placed a stack of books on the project in order to prevent warping. Afterwards I stitched raffia on the created sheet and formed a tube using a glass. Stapled top and bottom and knotted the raffia and tada a decorative tube to place around a little candle in a glass.

Voor mijn tweede probeersel heb ik tussen de 2 laatste lagen plastic paars vloeipapier geschoven en het vervolgens verder bewerkt. Tijdens het afkoelen heb ik een stapel boeken op het project geplaatst om kromtrekken te voorkomen. Op het ontstane vel heb ik als versiering raffia gestikt, toen het vel om een glas gespannen en vervolgens boven en onderkant vastgezet met een nietje. Vervolgens de raffia geknoopt en voila een koker om rond een glaasje met waxinelichtje te plaatsen.

A few days ago I finally finished my swap ornaments and send them out to all participants. I made these small stockings.

I like to recycle or use whatever I have lying around, so for my ornaments I used a leftover piece of oilcloth, an old brown envelope, a bit of netting from a mandarine crate, a small piece of red felt, 2 different ribbons I bought at a christmas sale last year and small beige buttons from my button stash.

I made a little tutorial if you are interested in making some yourself, To make my little christmas stockings you can use whatever you prefer like felt, linen, cotton or even paper.

I haven't done a lot of swapping the past year but this summer I decided to participate in a fabric charm swap organised by Dawn.

I myself felted some merinowool and silk in beautiful natural and seablue colors as a tribute to the summer, cut them in leaves and decorated them with embroiderysilk, seedbeads and sequils. The ones for the other participants I send off as they were but I decide to make mine into a pendant by adding two lampwork beads and a spacer.

I received 6 charms in return and to be honest I have two favorites: the lightblue drop Dawn made herself as an extra and the purple one with little beads.

Gisteren had ik zin om eens iets te doen dat ik normaliter niet zo snel zou doen en daarom heb ik dit kleine artquiltje gemaakt. De appel is d.m.v. naaltvilten op de stof gevilt en verder geborduurd, het quiltje is met de hand doorgepit en vastgemaakt aan een takje van mijn appelboom.

I wanted to do something different from my normal work and made this little artquilt yesterday. The apple is needlefelted and embroidered and I handquilted the whole thing. After that I attached the quilt to a branch of my appletree.

Een creatieveling die van plan was haar kamer op te ruimen. Als snel stuitte zij op een verzameling breipennen, die op een niet zo handige plek in een mand stonden en daardoor geregeld irritatie veroorzaakten omdat er van alles aan bleef haken. Al enige tijd had de creatieveling een plannetje in haar hoofd om hier een betere oplossing voor te regelen, maar het kwam er steeds niet van om dit te realiseren. Ach dacht ze terwijl ze net begonnen was met opruimen, laat ik dat nu meteen eens even regelen.

Nu is het probleem met deze creatieveling dat er dan niet even een gewone oplossing gemaakt kan worden, nee dat moet ook nog eens creatief en mooi zijn...

Het resultaat was helemaal naar het zin, een platte rol met een applicatie op de voorkant en voorzien van vakjes waar alle breinaalden overzichtelijk en netjes op en rij in bewaard kunnen worden. Alleen jammer dat de verzameling met sok- en rondbreinaalden er niet goed inpassen. Ach, als je dan toch bezig bent kun je daar misschien maar direct een rol met aangepaste maat voor maken:

Ook die is naar het zin. Sterker nog... de combinatie is wel heel erg leuk en omdat er ook nog een aantal grote ikea-kussens wachten op een hoes en we nu dan toch alles overhoop gehaald hebben gaan we maar meteen even verder...

Je snapt wel... van het opruimen is verder niets meer gekomen ;0)

Although crocketing with plastic strips sometimes is too heavy for my arms, everytime I start again I somehow get addicted for a while. So here are some new ones.

The process of combining colors and materials is what's causing the addiction for me. And ofcourse the fact that something that's lost his first function and maybe would have ended up in the recycle bin is reformed into something useful again.

The cases are formed starting with a flat crocheted piece. I cut up the heavy plastic shoppingbags from boutiques in strips about 1 cm wide and fold them so the inside color of the bags doesn't show while crocheting. The way I cut them result in a very long plastic yarn. The thin bags from marketplaces are cut up in loops wich are tied together to form the yarn.

Putting the zipper in is a bit difficult because the "fabric" is pretty heavy, but on the other hand putting in the sides is more easy because of the exact same reason. Sometimes I use fabric to make the sides and sometimes I crochet the sides as well.

The tags are formed with scraps of what's left of the handle, top or bottom of the bags together with other materials I used.

I like to recycle and therefore I made this pencilcase out of the shoppingbags I brought home from a shoppingtrip last week.

And here's another one I made a while back and send to the other side of the world for something that turned out to be a oneway trade :(

In between all other work, I'm trying to find time to finish my softie for back-tack.

I'm making a softie with one of Wee Wonderful's free patterns for Stephanie from Littlebirds. She's a real crafty person herself also so I have to do my very best to make it something special. I'm supposed to use black and white material with one extra color. As you can see I'm a bit inspired by the springcolors in my garden. Or is it that I just can't help myself, because green is one of my most favorite colors ;)
