Bedankt voor al de bezoekjes aan mijn weblog in 2008. Ik heb in ieder geval genoten van de reacties die achter gelaten zijn en hoop dat er veel zullen volgen. Ik heb in ieder geval weer enorm zin in een nieuw Blogjaar!

I love to read books but boy if they are using them to make things like this I would gladly have mine available ;)

Ik ben gek op het lezen van boeken maar als ze gebruikt worden om dit te maken, dan stel ik de mijne graag beschikbaar ;)

It's winter in Holland and I mean it really is winter.... cold and white. It even seems to have snowed in some parts and for those who like to skate on nature-ice it's heaven I believe. In my parth of the country there's no snow, the only thing we have is bone-breaking iceparths on the streets and pathways and so I'm a little uncomfortable to go by bike.

Although it's already 6 days since New Year our christmas decorations are still up. I always feel sad to get them down because it gives out livingroom such a cosy feeling. However I need to get ready to put it down eventually. So inspired by the winterweather I have been looking on the internet for inspiration to replace those decorations for some that will fit this time of year. I found the website from FriedaMaria and I sure do like their styling-ideas.

Zoals een ieder al heeft gemerkt, het is winter in Nederland. Het schijnt in sommige delen van dit kikkerlandje zelfs goed gesneeuwd te hebben voor diegene die graag op natuurijs schaatsen moet het ook hemels zijn.

Ik vind de styling ideeën van FriedaMaria wel erg grappig.

I was looking for a new Diary, ofcourse I already should have bought one in november/december but I totally forgot.

I wanted to have diary from PiP studio because it definately is my absolute favorite brand of the moment. I have a notebook from them and my daughter had the schooldiary and we totally love the designs. So I have been looking everywhere, but ofcourse they are all sold out.

My last resource was this office supplies shop in Haarlem called Muijs, that's where I bought my notebook. Unfortunately they also are sold out but I found the next best thing. Although it's a total opposite from PiP because there isn't any decoration at all, I'm also a huge fan of Moleskine. I not only found a diary, I also bought a matching set of 3 small notebooks.

And in my search of inspiring decoration idea's I found a link on Monica's site about a tutorial to make fairy lights out of an egg-case.

I'm sure this will be a lovely idea to replace the christmas garland still hanging in my kitchen ;)

Again my mailman brougth me some lovely presents. Arina, a dutch lady living in Canada is participating in one my lampworking forums. She asked the forum-members to show their Christmas decorations and she rewarded some with lovely prices. Since I wrote about my Christmas tree being decorated with al kinds of handcrafted ornaments received trough several international swaps, she send me this lovely decoration and added a calender with Canadian wildlife pictures as well.

The necklace on the right is from Sol one of my customers. In october she bought one of my beadsets on E-bay but unfortunately it got lost in the mail and she never received it. Although ofcourse I wasn't to blame, I decided to make her a new set and this time send it out by registered mail and luckely this time it arrived savely. Sol makes beautiful jewelry and as a thank you she send me one of her lovely necklaces. So now we're both very happy ;)

It's still to cold to do make new beads in my studio, however Istill had some trollbeads laying around waiting to get silvercores and be photographed and placed in my Etsy-store.

While photographing each bead I decided that maybe it would be a nice idea to make sets, photograph those as well and show them with every seperate item in the set. This way people could see what the beads would look like in a matching set. So basicly one might say that I have been playing with my trollbeads all afternoon and it although it was a lot of work it actually was fun as well ;)

Anyway below are pictures from two sets I made and ofcourse only the glassbeads are available in my etsystore.

Ik doe mee aan een "vogel-swap" georganiseerd door Regina van Creative Kismet en heb ook al een aantal vogel-ornamenten gemaakt om te versturen.

Ofcourse I used leftover materials like a cardboard box, a paper shopping bag that not only had white but also gold parts, a bit of vintage wallpaper, rope and some blue and green feathers I bought years ago and instead of glue-ing it all together I actually sewed so of the parts together.

Natuurlijk heb ik hier "waardeloze" materialen voor gebruikt zoals de door van ontbijtgranen, een papieren boodschappentas met zowel goude als witte delen, een stukje oud behang, touw en wat gekleurde veren die ik al een aantal jaar in huis heb. En in plaats van het hele boeltje in elkaar te lijmen heb ik hiervoor mijn naaimachine gebruikt.

I have been a huge fan of Sara Lechner from the moment I found her work on Flickr a few years back. Now I've read she also published a book which surely will be a nice addition to your artbooks.

Vanaf het moment dat ik voor het eerst het werk van Sara Lechner tegenkwam op Flickr ben ik fan. Nu las ik dat ze ook een boek gepubliceerd heeft, een prachtige aanvulling voor je verzameling kunstboeken lijkt me.

It's not that cold anymore and yesterday I was able to heat up my studio and my kiln and made some new trollstyle-beads which are now available in my Etsy-store.

Gelukkig is het niet meer zo koud en dus kon ik gisteren weer eventjes mijn studio en oven op temperatuur brengen om een aantal nieuwe trollbeads-kralen te maken. Deze zijn te koop via mijn Etsywinkeltje.

This is one of the quilled snowflake ornaments I made as parth of my christmas decorations recycling the paper of an old brown shopping bag.

Dit is één van de "quilled snowflake ornaments" die onderdeel waren van mijn kerstdecoraties. Rotzooi genoeg hier in huis dus ze zijn gemaakt van een bruine papieren boodschappentas die ik nog had liggen.

Personally I think the result is not to bad for a first time quilling but it's nothing compared with the really amazing illustrations made by Yulia Brodskaya's because those are really stunning!

Helemaal niet gek voor een eerste resultaat al zeg ik het zelf. Maar ja als je dan kort daarop het werkelijk fantastische werk van Yulida Brodskaya onder ogen krijgt, die deze techniek gebruikt voor haar illustraties, dan is mijn resultaat toch echt niet meer dan een broddelwerkje. Maar goed ter verdediging, zij gebruikt dan hoogstwaarschijnlijk weer geen oud papier ;)

Today I've been working on some new ideas and this is one of them. Combining drawing, collage, sewing and lampworking into small Illustrational artquilts. I'm very happy with the way this first one turned out and I'm really planning to make more of these.

Vandaag ben ik bezig geweest een aantal nieuwe ideeën uit te werken en dit is er één van. Het combineren van tekeningen, collage, stof, stikwerk en glaskralen zodat er een geïllustreerd artquiltje ontstaat.

Ik ben best tevreden met dit eerste resultaat dus je hebt zo maar kans dat er meer zullen volgen.

I've found this tutorial on fusing plastic grocerybags on Etsylabs and ofcourse I had to try it out. I still am trying to come up with some nice idea's how to put those new "scraps of fabric" to use.

For my first trial I used thin white bags. This resulted in a rather irregular and not so flat shape. Most probably because I've been making birds lately, the shape and lines reminded me of a bird so I emphasized the lines using black stitches.

Ik vond een beschrijving op Etsylabs over het samensmelten van plastictassen en natuurlijk moest ik dat eens uitproberen

Voor mijn eerste probeersel heb ik gebruik gemaakt van dunne witte plastic tasjes. Het resultaat was een nogal onregelmatige en niet zo vlakke vorm. Deze vorm en de lijnen die ontstonden door het samensmelten deden mij denken aan een vogel. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk doordat ik de laatste tijd zo met vogelvormen bezig ben geweest. De lijnen heb ik vervolgens benadrukt door deze van zwarte stiksels te voorzien.

For my second trial, I placed purple tissue paper between the last two layers before fuming the plastic.During the coolingprocess I also placed a stack of books on the project in order to prevent warping. Afterwards I stitched raffia on the created sheet and formed a tube using a glass. Stapled top and bottom and knotted the raffia and tada a decorative tube to place around a little candle in a glass.

Voor mijn tweede probeersel heb ik tussen de 2 laatste lagen plastic paars vloeipapier geschoven en het vervolgens verder bewerkt. Tijdens het afkoelen heb ik een stapel boeken op het project geplaatst om kromtrekken te voorkomen. Op het ontstane vel heb ik als versiering raffia gestikt, toen het vel om een glas gespannen en vervolgens boven en onderkant vastgezet met een nietje. Vervolgens de raffia geknoopt en voila een koker om rond een glaasje met waxinelichtje te plaatsen.

Nog steeds bezig met nieuwe artquilts...

Everyone in my family knows I'm a terrible housekeeper, I hate spending my precious time cleaning house. So if you spot me in the act, don't hesitate to take pictures because no one will believe you otherwise ;)

One of the reasons why I dislike it, is because one way or another I seem to not be able to do so without hurting myself. Mostly minor cuts and bruises, nothing serious but yesterday my day started at the emergency room because our wonderful big new shiny stove, appearantly has this sharp as a knive blade at the back. I'll spare you the rest of the nasty details, but my knuckle hurts and I will end up adding an extra scar to my already large collection... another cleaning action killed in the cradle ;0)

Het is algemeen bekend in mijn familiekring dat ik een broertje dood heb aan het huishouden. Echt ik vind het een verspilling van mijn kostbare vrije tijd. Mocht je me dus betrappen op een schoonmaakaktie zou ik maar een foto nemen om geloofwaardig over te komen.

I finally have a beadset to show in my favorite colors and I think this will become a necklace for myself for a change.

Eindelijk ook weer eens een kralenset om te laten zien in mijn favoriete kleurtjes en ik denk zo maar dat ik hier maar eens een ketting voor mezelf van maak.
